A wealth of experience spanning across three continents
Sylvia has taught piano for 20 years on three different continents (North America, Asia, and Europe). During this time, she has worked with children and young adult students from many different cultural backgrounds and levels ranging from beginner to advance players, as well as with busy professionals or retirees wishing to pick up a new skill.
She enormously enjoys teaching and nurturing a spirit of musical exploration and helping students create a narrative in the pieces they are learning through storytelling, imagination, and experimenting.
Sylvia particularly enjoys teaching children and has mentored over 50 students from their very first day on the piano all the way to Grade 8 and beyond. She incorporates interactive teaching methods to help every young learner to explore their inner passion for music through piano lessons while developing their capacity for concentration and self-discipline. With a strong piano and theory foundation acquired during the first years of their training, Sylvia's piano students are able to achieve outstanding piano performance results at their exams and most importantly develop a lifelong passion for music.
Sylvia has also taught and tutored rudimentary to advanced theory (harmony) for the past 10 years to students pursuing the RCM, Trinity, and ABRSM exams.
Sylvia is a BC Registered Music Teacher (BCRMTA) in the North Shore branch
